To recapture what I've heard is for many the best years of their life I'm taking a class at UNLV. This experience will be minus keggers, frat parties, and dating, but I feel certain my microbial genetics class will be all the college experience I need. If all goes well I'll enter UNLV's masters program in biology next semester, if not, Old School could use a sequel from the female perspective!
UNLV's Mascot Rebel, "Hey Reb"
Before I re-immersed my self in academia, I attempted to cook naan, a type of Indian bread I think is delicious.
Clearly this did not go as planned! Determined not to let this go the way of my first pie crust, I begged Hubby to come to the rescue. He quickly started adding flour to dry out the dough and the Naan survived. My hero! It wasn't the best naan I've had by any stretch, but I'll take it as a first try, or should I say I gave it "The old college try!"
As another random bit of blogdom, I'll share with you the picture below. I had a very cool visitor on Tuesday morning, coming to check out the sparrows and doves on my bird feeder.
I hope he returns, I'd like to see the food chain in action on one of the smaller birds, but that may be asking to much from my visitor. He sure did make the smaller birds scarce!
Finally, the poll results from last week. You were split between being happy that Favre is back and wishing he would retire, a couple of jokers claim to know neither Favre or the Jets. I would claim that the story carpeted both sports and regular news such that even unconceived children are aware of the Bret Favre trade to the Jets. I'm happy that Brett will be playing football, even though the story felt like a pregnancy (as far as I know at this point!), the guy is easy to root for and fun to watch. Sports radio announcers cheer the Jets as now being an interesting team to watch. I've included a new poll, so even if you don't know A-Rod, Google him!
Hubby is taking me on a little adventure this Labor Day weekend! I hope you all enjoy the long weekend as well.

i concur. microbial genetics exemplifies the traditional college experience.
Wow, a whole four years college experience all rolled up into one single double stranded loop of DNA. Who would have thought bacteria were so resourceful?
I've seen this bread making picture before in my own kitchen. Like Mothere, like Daughter, but the results are always quite good.
Your raptor has brought a whole new concept to your feeder.
Finally, Favre is being encouraged to stop doing what he loves because he is 40 something? If he can, then he should and more power to him, from a nearly 60 something.
holey moley microbial genetics. i'm not sure if i can pronounce microbial correctly...awesome! have fun! i think this gives you at least one excuse to drink too much cheap booze one night for "college" sake...
the bird eater perched at the bird feeder is hilarious. we have hawks in the park and i've seen one eat a squirrel once. be careful not to get between one of those birds and its food. they are hard core protective over their kill...
i think i took that class my freshman year at asu.
microbial genetics sounds as much as fun as 20th century approaches to history. how is it possible that there is enough room for multiple dorks in one family? (and by dorks i mean really really smart people)
good luck and i hope you had fun on your labor day adventure!
First- I am so proud of you as you undertake this new adventure- graduate school- again. I do believe you and Matthew will accumulate enough "degrees" for all of us!
And the fact that our hero Will rescued the Naan is a story repeating- and repeating.
And I love the HAWK! Keep the stories coming- I love it! Mom
