The little one got two birthday celebrations. The first celebration was a small one at her daycare on her birthday (the 24th) and the second one was a BIG celebration with special guests over Memorial Day Weekend.
Here's our birthday girl complete with tiara.

Fortunately Daddy brought enough cake for all her friends. We were just happy we didn't have to clean these babies after the party!

I do think some of the cake made it into her mouth, maybe!

After the little celebration at daycare we came back home to give her a gift from us.

The BIG celebration included a visit from Auntie Anne and Uncle Sean, so Mikayla was spoiled with attention all weekend.

We had wonderful weather for Anne and Sean's visit and got to spend an afternoon on the porch with wonderful smelling ribs on the smoker.

Here are Mikayla's homemade birthday brownie cupcakes. I found the recipe on Martha Stewart's website and they were delish! Very rich, but so so yummy! Grammy and Grandpa Peter joined the party via Skype, which is so modern, unfortunately Skype does not support cupcake tasting! Don't worry, I sent an email recommending it for their next upgrade.

Before we dove into the cupcakes, the little one got to open her wonderful gifts. The tissue paper was a bigger draw than the actual gifts, but she did recognize toys as something special and her eyes got big every time she opened one. Mikayla got wonderful gifts and there is no doubt she will be the best dressed little baby this summer, her little clothes are so cute!

Oh how I love this little face!

Is there anything better than milk, cupcake, ben&jerrys, and Daddy?

Practicing for poolside!

Our little swimmer. It's hard to see, but she did stick her face in the water, twice! We were soe proud! Some of you are asking yourselves, doesn't she have a swimsuit? And some of you are thinking, I know she has a swimsuit because I gave her one (or two) so why isn't she wearing it? Well, little princess was a bit cranky and had a melt down just getting into the swimmer diaper, so a swimsuit was not possible for the pool introduction, but I'll work on it.
Thank you all for the great birthday gifts and wishes, we had a wonderful time celebrating Mikayla's first year!

Survival is what it is all about, well at least for Mom and Dad. I suppose you do know that after birthday one, you begin the terrible two's (ages 1-3) and it sounds like she is ready jump right in. We will enjoy seeing how that process progresses in several weeks.
She is so cute! I mean really! So cute! And started laughing with the just the title! I think you've all "survived" marvelously. As for the "twos"- just remember how "determined"- or is it bullheaded both her Mommy and Daddy are!
And did I mention that she is so cute!
She is just the cutest baby!! I love seeing her in the pool and of course with the chocolate face. I do agree wth Max she has (determined) parents so the twos should be quite the adventure. Thank you so much for sharing I now haqve something else to watch over and over!!
Love,
Grammy Maggie

Wow, happy happy Birthday! Where does the time go! We wish we all lived close together, I think it would be great for our little guy Wyatt, Mikayla, the parents Jason, Alissa, you guys, aunts uncles and of course the greatest of grandparents to all hang out, laugh and share stories. How fun! Recently was looking at pictures myself and had great ones of Will, Anne, Carly, Jason and Krista all celebrating Fourth of July, even the Lincoln's were there! Give her hugs and kisses from Hanson MA and we look forward to all meeting up one day. Got your reply for the wedding, and will miss the opportunity to see you all but know how busy you are too. We will make a face to face visit happen someday though!
I have never seen a little one stick their face in the water over and over again on purpose!!! Most hat it or avoid it! She is going to e quite the challenge! I love the video, made me laugh and smile! Wish you all were closer because she is irresistible! Great post and happy first year!

Love it! Happy Birthday Mikayla! Love all the cupcakes, that definitely looks like enough for four in our house, but maybe you had some leftovers? She is absolutely adorable! Congrats on making it, and I'll tell Hayes to keep his mouth shut on behavior pointers from now on.
